CDU Leaves Northeast State Parliament After 4.9% Result

Germany’s conservative CDU won 4.9% in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, leaving the state parliament — its first postwar exit there and worst state result on record. Chancellor Friedrich Merz called it a “disaster,” saying he will stay on as chancellor and keep fighting for his economic reform plan.
