CDU ejected from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania parliament after 4.9% result

Germany's conservative CDU took 4.9% in northeastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, leaving the state parliament for the first time in postwar history in its worst state result on record. Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the outcome a "disaster" and vowed to stay on as chancellor and fight for his economic reform programme.
