Germany's Conservative Party Loses Its Seats in One Northeastern State

Germany’s conservative CDU party got 4.9% of votes in northeastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, too little to keep seats — its first shutout there since World War II and worst state loss ever. Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Germany’s leader, called it a 'disaster' and said he will stay on and keep fighting for his economic reform plan.
