Labour would keep landlord interest tax rule

Labour leader Chris Hipkins says Labour would keep the current tax settings for landlords if elected, RNZ reported on 21 September. Landlords can currently deduct mortgage interest from their taxable rental income. Hipkins said Labour would leave that in place and back a capital gains tax instead. The coalition Government restored the deduction in 2024, RNZ reported.
