Texas Court Clears Heart-Care Transfer for Surrogate-Born Infant Rumi

Texas Supreme Court ruled Sept. 17, 2026, that baby Rumi can move from Texas to Los Angeles for heart care. Rumi, carried by surrogate McKenna West, has hypoplastic left heart syndrome, where the heart's left side is underdeveloped and limits blood flow. A California court recognized biological parents Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed as custodians. West had opposed the transfer.
