Texas Lets Sick Baby Rumi Go to Los Angeles for Heart Care

Sept. 17, 2026, Texas top court let baby Rumi leave Texas for Los Angeles heart care. Rumi was carried by surrogate McKenna West for biological parents Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed. Rumi's left heart is too small, like a weak pump, so blood cannot flow normally. A California court gave custody to Gilkar and Ahmed. West opposed the trip.
