Texas Supreme Court allows surrogate-born infant's transfer to Los Angeles for care

On September 17, 2026, the Texas Supreme Court allowed infant Rumi, born to surrogate McKenna West, to transfer from Texas to Los Angeles for heart treatment. Rumi has hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which impedes blood flow. Custody was recognized by a California court for biological parents Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed. West had sought to block the move.
