Google is helping state lawmakers write chatbot safety bills while seeking exemptions for widely used chatbots, according to Sept. 18 reporting. Many state bills were written with heavy input from industry. Some 2026 state laws exempt popular bots. The federal government has not yet passed a broad AI law.
