Google helps draft chatbot safety laws while seeking exemptions for popular bots

Google is helping state lawmakers draft AI chatbot safety bills while pushing for exemptions that would exclude most widely used chatbots, according to Sept. 18 reporting. Many state bills are drafted with heavy industry input. Some laws enacted in 2026 exempt popular bots. The federal government has yet to pass comprehensive AI legislation.
