Copilot suggested 'congratulations!' to dying constituent, Hastie says

MP Andrew Hastie told a parliamentary inquiry he fed a terminally ill constituent's letter about voluntary assisted dying into Microsoft Copilot, the AI tool that drafts replies. It suggested opening with “congratulations!”, “great to hear from you” or “that is wonderful news!”. Hastie says Australia should run its own AI. The test is how Canberra builds it.
