Addison Lee founder loses non-dom tax fight, owes £20.5m

John Griffin, founder of taxi firm Addison Lee, must pay £20.5m more in UK tax for 2013-2020. A London tribunal rejected his claim to non-dom status — a former rule limiting tax on overseas earnings — siding with HMRC, the tax authority. Judges said he had settled in England in every meaningful sense. The status ended in April 2025.
