Government may sign $1b LNG terminal deal during campaign

Energy Minister Simeon Brown said the government could still sign a contract for the proposed Port Taranaki LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal during the election campaign. No contract has been signed yet, he said, and the law needed to allow it has not been introduced. Leasing the terminal would cost more than $1 billion over 15 years.
