Government may sign $1b gas import deal during election

Energy Minister Simeon Brown said the government could still sign a contract to lease a proposed gas import terminal at Port Taranaki during the election campaign. Nothing has been signed yet, he said, and Parliament has not yet seen the law needed to allow it. The 15-year lease, like a long rental agreement, would cost more than $1 billion.
