Parliament passes military academy sentencing law under urgency

Parliament passed the Oranga Tamariki (Responding to Serious Youth Offending) Amendment Bill on Thursday night, using urgency to skip the normal timetable, RNZ reported. It lets the Youth Court send serious young offenders to Military-Style Academies. Minister for Children Karen Chhour said it will be the court's most intensive option.
