Warming Helped Cause Deadly Langtang Collapse

World Weather Attribution said Sept. 17 that climate change helped drive the Aug. 26 collapse of rock and glacier from Langtang Lirung, flooding areas in Nepal and Tibet. Researchers described a compound crisis — warming, shrinking glaciers, thawing permafrost, or frozen ground, and unstable slopes — after local July-August heat about 5C above normal.
