Climate change helped trigger deadly Langtang glacial collapse, scientists say

World Weather Attribution said Sept. 17 climate change was a core factor in the Aug. 26 collapse of rock and glacier from Langtang Lirung that flooded parts of Nepal and Tibet. Researchers called it a “compound crisis” of warming, glacier retreat, permafrost thaw and instability after locally recorded July-August heat about 5C above normal.
