New development levy to replace council charges

According to RNZ, the Government has introduced a development levy to replace development contributions — the fees councils charge developers to pay for growth infrastructure like pipes and roads. Councils and developers welcomed the change. Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said the fees are 'not fit for purpose'. Councils will shift from 2029, with the old system ending in 2030.
