
Carney and von der Leyen discuss associate EU membership for Canada
Prime Minister Mark Carney met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Strasbourg Sept. 16. They discussed Canada becoming an associate member of the 27-country European Union — a partnership short of full membership. Von der Leyen said the sides could move from their trade deal “to an alliance for the future.” Carney said Canada is not seeking full membership.
