Canada talks with Europe about becoming a closer partner

Prime Minister Mark Carney met European leader Ursula von der Leyen in Strasbourg Sept. 16. They talked about Canada joining the 27-country European Union as an associate member, like a partner but not a full member. Von der Leyen spoke of moving from a trade deal “to an alliance for the future.” Carney said Canada is not seeking full membership.
