China's 134km Pinglu Canal Links Xijiang River to Sea

China's 134km Pinglu Canal opened September 16, 2026 in Guangxi. Billed as China's first modern river-to-sea canal, it links the inland Xijiang River to the Beibu Gulf. That gives southwest provinces Yunnan and Guizhou direct access to the sea and to Southeast Asian trade routes.
