China opens 134km Pinglu Canal linking Xijiang River to sea

China's 134km Pinglu Canal becomes operational September 16, 2026 in Guangxi. Described as China's first modern river-to-sea canal, it connects the Xijiang River to the Beibu Gulf, giving southwest provinces like Yunnan and Guizhou direct access to the sea and Southeast Asia trade routes.
