Victoria Labor Pledges Statewide Wand Searches for Knives

Re-elected Labor would allow Victorian police and protective services officers to wand-scan anyone in public for knives from early next year, Premier Ben Carroll pledged 16 September 2026. Minister Paul Edbrooke described it as 'anywhere, anytime.' Current law only permits warrantless scans — searches without a court order — in designated areas. Labor promises 1,200 extra wands.
