Victoria Plan to Check People for Knives Anywhere in Public
Victorian leader Ben Carroll promised 16 September 2026 that if Labor is re-elected, police and protective services officers could use hand-held wands to scan anyone in public for knives from early next year. Minister Paul Edbrooke called it 'anywhere, anytime.' Now scans without prior approval are only allowed in set areas. Labor would add 1,200 wands.
