Victoria Labor Pledges Statewide Police Wand Searches for Knives If Re-elected

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll pledged on 16 September 2026 that a re-elected Labor government would let police and protective services officers wand-search any person in public for knives from early next year. Police Minister Paul Edbrooke called it "Anywhere, anytime". Existing rules limit warrantless searches to designated areas. Labor would supply 1,200 extra wands.
