UK Heat Damages Roads, Raising Pothole Risk

The RAC warns of more potholes after the UK's hottest summer on record. Policy chief Simon Williams said heat and UV oxidise bitumen — the glue in asphalt — leaving roads brittle and prone to cracking. It follows back-to-back heatwaves above 38C, with only half of roads in England and Wales in good condition, the Asphalt Industry Alliance said.
