
2,000 Romanian Farmers Clash With Police Over EU Sheep and Goat Export Ban
About 2,000 Romanian farmers and shepherds clashed with riot police outside the government building in Bucharest on Sept. 15, 2026. Protesters threw rocks, metal barriers and other objects, and police responded with tear gas. Police detained 26 people; 24 needed medical care, with four hospitalized. The protest was over the EU's extended ban on exporting live sheep and goats.
