
2,000 Farmers Fight Police in Bucharest Over Ban on Selling Animals Abroad
About 2,000 farmers and shepherds clashed with crowd-control police outside Romania's government building in Bucharest on Sept. 15, 2026. Protesters threw rocks, metal barriers and other objects; police answered with tear gas, which stings eyes. Police held 26 people; 24 needed medical care, four were hospitalized. They opposed the European Union's extended ban on selling live sheep and goats abroad.
