UK's £56,000 Cost for Each Return to France

Britain pays about £56,000 for each person returned to France, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told MPs. Under the 'one in, one out' deal, about 1,400 have been sent back since August 2025, swapped for asylum seekers arriving legally. Mahmood said that matches or is cheaper than a year in hotel accommodation.
