India ends free UPI for larger merchant payments
India's NPCI, which runs UPI, the country's instant payment system, will charge shops 0.4% on customer payments above ₹2,000 from October 15. Shoppers pay nothing. The charge, capped at ₹300, ends free merchant acceptance since January 2020 and will pay for upkeep, security and fraud prevention across the UPI network.
