India to charge merchants 0.4% on large UPI payments from October 15

India's NPCI will levy 0.4% on person-to-merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000 from October 15, ending zero-fee acceptance since January 2020. Consumers stay free. The fee is capped at ₹300 and will fund infrastructure, cybersecurity and fraud prevention across the UPI network.
