Shopping payments in India to carry a small shop fee

India's NPCI, which runs UPI, the phone-based payment system, will charge shops 0.4% when customers pay over ₹2,000 from October 15. Buyers pay nothing. The fee, capped at ₹300, ends free shop payments since January 2020 and will fund upkeep, security and scam prevention across the network.
