UN Experts Say Belarus Turned Justice System Against Opponents

UN independent experts say Belarus turned its courts, police, security services, prosecutors and prisons into a coordinated system to silence real or suspected opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko. Their report, before the UN Human Rights Council this week, says abuses since May 2020 may be crimes against humanity, meaning widespread attacks on civilians. Belarus did not cooperate.
