UN experts say Belarus weaponized justice to silence Lukashenko opponents

UN independent experts say Belarus's courts, police, security services, prosecutors and prison authorities worked together to silence real or perceived opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko. The report, due before the UN Human Rights Council in the week of September 15, 2026, says some abuses since May 2020 could amount to crimes against humanity. Belarus did not cooperate.
