13-year-old has three surgeries after rabid beaver attack in Maryland

Dominick Cebula, 13, was attacked by a beaver while swimming at Cunningham Falls State Park in Thurmont, Maryland, on July 26, 2026. Airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, he had three surgeries for nerve damage — injury to nerves — in his chest and hands. The beaver was euthanized and tested positive for rabies; Cebula got preventive shots.
