OpenAI Backs Tougher UK Rules for Leading AI Labs

OpenAI urged UK lawmakers on Sept. 14, 2026 to pass AI legislation, saying: 'We support stronger UK rules for the handful of companies, including OpenAI, developing the most powerful AI systems.' Europe policy chief Tom Duff Gordon said advanced labs, not startups, should face the rules. It followed Anthropic's call for a global slowdown.
