OpenAI urges UK lawmakers to impose tougher rules on top AI labs

OpenAI on Sept. 14, 2026 urged British lawmakers to pass AI legislation, saying: "We support stronger UK rules for the handful of companies, including OpenAI, developing the most powerful AI systems." Europe policy chief Tom Duff Gordon said rules should target advanced labs, not startups. The call followed Anthropic's push for a global slowdown.
