Labour proposes independent AI regulator and Office of AI within DPMC

Labour leader Chris Hipkins and technology spokesperson Reuben Davidson say a Labour government would set up an independent AI regulator outside the Department of Internal Affairs, plus an Office of AI within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet using existing resources. A senior minister would oversee a public work programme. They announced the policy at Victoria University of Wellington on 9 September.
