Labour wants a watchdog for artificial intelligence if it wins government

Labour's Chris Hipkins and Reuben Davidson say that if Labour wins government, they would create an independent watchdog to oversee artificial intelligence, separate from the Department of Internal Affairs. They would also set up a small AI office inside the Prime Minister's department using existing staff. A senior minister would be in charge. They announced the plan in Wellington on 9 September.
