Greens want government-run supermarkets but can't say if groceries would be cheaper

The Green Party wants the government to buy 120 supermarkets and two warehouses for $2.8 billion, creating a chain called KiwiMart. Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick said politicians should not set grocery prices and could not say how much cheaper food would be. She left that to the Commerce Commission, the country's market watchdog. Just two companies currently sell 82 percent of all groceries.
