Bertolucci's Final Screenplay, Left Unfinished at His Death in 2018, Premieres in Competition at Venice

Bernardo Bertolucci died in 2018 with a screenplay still in its second draft. Director Andrea Pallaoro completed it, working from a script credited to Bertolucci, Ilaria Bernardini and Ludovica Rampoldi, and developed the project with Bertolucci's own collaborators. "The Echo Chamber," starring Alicia Vikander, Luca Marinelli and Susan Sarandon, screened in Competition at the 83rd Venice Film Festival on 6 September 2026 (The Hollywood Reporter; La Biennale). One of 21 films vying for the Golden Lion, awarded 12 September 2026 (WMBD Radio). An Italian-Belgian co-production, it opens theatrically in Italy on 10 September (The Hollywood Reporter; La Biennale).
