Galliano Cancels Met Costume Institute Retrospective Amid Backlash Over Past Conduct

John Galliano canceled his planned solo retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, "John Galliano: Horizons," scheduled for May 2027 to January 2028. He announced the decision on Instagram on 31 August 2026, saying he did not want the debate to put the Met in a difficult position. Max Hollein, the Met's director, said the decision was made jointly. The Met said replacement plans will be announced later. The show had drawn backlash over Galliano's 2010–2011 racist and antisemitic conduct.
