Kusama Retrospective Opens at Stedelijk Two Weeks After Artist's Death at 97

Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist celebrated for polka-dot canvases and infinity mirror rooms — immersive installations of endlessly reflected light — died at 97 on August 27, 2026, per Kyodo and Reuters. A major retrospective (a career-spanning survey exhibition) opens September 11 at Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum. Cologne's Museum Ludwig also stages a Kusama show this year for its fiftieth anniversary. Both were planned during her lifetime.
