NSW begins Australia's first state gun buyback since Bondi Beach attack

New South Wales launches a gun buyback on 2 November 2026 — the first under a national framework created after the December 2025 Bondi Beach attack, where 15 people died at a Hanukkah festival. Owners exceeding new firearm caps can surrender weapons for up to AUS$1,000. NSW is first to act; other states have not yet begun.
