Salvatore Mereu's 'Wandering Trees' premieres at Locarno

Salvatore Mereu's three-hour Italian drama "Wandering Trees" (Alberi erranti) had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival. Adapted from Alberto Capitta's novel, it tracks three intertwined families in remote northern Sardinia. Minerva Pictures International handles sales. The 2026 VIACOLVENTO production is presented in DCP 2K. Mereu's earlier films include "Assandira" and "Pretty Butterflies." (Variety, 9 July 2026)
