Ottawa offers $100-million rebate to move steel between provinces

Ottawa launched a $100-million rebate on August 10, 2026, covering half of eligible rail and marine freight costs for Canadian steel shipped between provinces and territories. Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon announced the one-year fund in Hamilton. It aims to redirect steel to domestic markets as U.S. tariffs of 50 per cent restrict exports south.
