Housing report says Kāinga Ora eviction rules should go

A report launched in Wellington on 10 August 2026 says the government housing agency Kāinga Ora should not evict tenants for "antisocial behaviour" or for not sticking to a debt repayment plan. The Human Rights Foundation checked government housing against United Nations standards and says the rules block people's right to a home. RNZ asked Associate Housing Minister Tama Potaka for comment.
