Human Rights Foundation calls for removal of Kāinga Ora eviction conditions
A New Zealand Human Rights Foundation report launched on August 10, 2026 in Wellington recommends removing Kāinga Ora tenancy conditions that allow evictions for "antisocial behaviour" or not "engaging" with a payment plan, calling them barriers to the universal right to housing. The report assessed government initiatives against UN decency principles. RNZ approached Associate Housing Minister Tama Potaka for comment.
