Hundreds of Hunters Caught Hundreds of Pythons in Florida — But the Snakes Are Still Winning

In July 2026, 907 hunters from 30 states, Canada, and Vietnam caught 280 Burmese pythons in the Everglades. These snakes don't belong in Florida and harm native wildlife. Since 2017, over 19,000 have been removed — yet their numbers keep growing. State coordinator Sarah Funck says there's no single fix for the problem.
