Google Replacing Its Old Phone Assistant with Gemini in September

Google will remove Google Assistant from Android phones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, and car displays starting September 4, 2026, taking a few weeks to complete. Users cannot switch back. Gemini, a newer, more capable helper, becomes the only option on supported devices in eligible regions. Google-branded cars, Google Home, and Google TV are unaffected.
