Outsider Wins Michigan Senate Primary Despite Record Lobbying Spending

Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan's Democratic U.S. Senate nomination on August 4, beating Congresswoman Haley Stevens 48.9% to 47.1% with 91% of votes counted. Stevens had backing from the largest donation ever given by AIPAC, a group that lobbies U.S. lawmakers to support Israel. El-Sayed ran on government-funded healthcare for all and ending U.S. military aid to Israel. He faces Republican Mike Rogers in November.
